At 16:53 of Tuesday, January 12, 2010 (22:53 hours the Italian) is the capital of Haiti was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has been recently affected by other natural disasters - a series of hurricanes in 2008 caused the deaths of more than 800 people - as well as serious conditions of political instability.
While it is still impossible to quantify the exact scale of the disaster information from the field merely confirmed the severity of the disaster. The most optimistic estimates speak of more than 100,000 deaths , and many are afraid to move beyond the record of 240,000 registered victims during the tsunami of 2004.
2 million people need help.
addition 100,000 deaths.
