singnori No, the class is not water! And let's face it now: that I enjoyed listening to it a work of electronic music was a lot 'of time. The fact is that ''''Toomorrow ( Ninja Tune) is not only a hard mooooooooooooooooooolto fun, but it is also a concentration of sublime art of 'assembly for one of the deans of the' electronic Abstract of the channel of the last twenty years, well known to lovers of this type of sound, especially for work done as Plug and Wagon Christ . In this case Luke Vibert, dusts off his own moniker better known and gives us a (more) number of high school worthy of a champion like him. A work that flirts with his own hand less intransigent (and experimental) in favor of the more childish,''creating''a collection of small stories sound steeped in melody and assembled with great relish. The spin goes a bit 'of everything: hip-hop beats, electro-funk breaks, samples of exotica, jazz, soul, suggestions Hawaiian, swing, and so on and and so forth. There is little to be done, there are producers who travel to another level, able to move the emotions through the sounds. Vibert is one of them. Not the case said earlier that the class is not water. If you want to convince ...

The boy with a speech impediment and several stories to tell

Born in Coventry and emigrated to London, Obaro Ejimiwe, aka Gostpoet , did his DNA (blood in the veins Nigerian and Dominican) and his eclectic tastes, from Badly Fela Kuti Drawn Boy through the grime (scene to which he belonged, and that weaning as MC), the combustible of a proposal that seeks its reason for being half way between trip-hop (old-fashioned term? Sorry !), electronic loops and a spoken world''educated''to Gill Scott Heron. And if it is true that the (mostly) convinecente debut EP last year had 'burned' my insane curiosity, making portends great good things, it is equally true that ''Peanut Butter Blues Jam and Melancholy'' (Brownswood, 2011) [can be ragging here] has far exceeded my wildest expectations, paying back with interest (at least) my confidence as a listener. A very beautiful work, in which ''the boy with a speech impediment and a lot of stories to tell'' (Obaro is defined as the same) is confirmed as atypical MC who makes thoughtful lyrics and flow while lying down (almost 'sleepy') its trademark. We'll talk about later this year?

What else about this wonderful character of Malian music which has not already been said in each of the brothers blog? The answer is: nothing. I just wanted that the Garden, in its small way, helped to give birth and on a monument as Boubacar Traoré, especially after having had the pleasure of extracting from the flight that day waiting for a jewel like '' Mali Denhou'' (Lusafrica, 2011) by which Kar Kar''''returns to delight us after six years of silence. Come and gone several times to the ears of his countrymen, Boubacar was' launched 'in the rest of the world on the sidelines of the interest created around the original''blues''by his old friend Ali Farka Toure . But Traore is not a griot , which allowed him to move (when has not) more freely in their relations with extra-African culture, both in the choice of the topics in the musical arrangements. This is why his records, sweet and deep, often introduce elements not just African-Americans, but also evocative and melodic arpeggio closer to some European folklore, treated during a long stay in the French seventies. Stories of villages, love songs, hymns, solidarity and above all the essentials. A man alone with his guitar. If the blues is also poetic sober, his is a minimalist example. Denhou''Mali''is no exception and joy of making music, and listen.

open mouth. So I have left the 14 tracks (or rather the 14 improvisations) that make ''New History Warfare Vol.2 = Judges''(Constellation, 2011) of Colin Stetson eclectic musician specialized U.S. in wind instruments (mainly saxophone and cornet), the second in his great work after the onset for Agoo four years ago. But surprisingly, also read the slew of collaborations and the curriculum of the boy from the Archive Fire to Godspeed You! Black Emperor (which was also tour member and session man), and even Tom Waits, Sinead O'Connor, David Byrne, etc..
.
.
E 'worth specifying that, however, regardless of unquestionable value of groups and individual artists mentioned above, obviously none of these Stetson could enjoy the freedom of expression but that is breathed in''New History Warfare Vol.2 ,''an important work in giving us the opportunity to see the variety of experience sudden (from avant-jazz minimalism) achievable through the use of wind instruments, as well as a demonstration of how the testing can come to the results (do not say but extremely ..) all in all accessible''enough''(or at least that's my opinion). I add only that the work was recorded live in the studio without overdubs, thanks to the contribution in the production of Shahzan Ismailly, and is embellished with some vocal tracks from interventions by Laurie Anderson and Shara Worden. Bello and extremely fascinating [can be reached here or here].

Since the end of the world at the end of a love Among

.
.
Since the end of the world at the end of a love. This phrase that broadly underpins the poetics of Texas Josh T. Pearson , authentic cowboy beard apocalypse mileage. Musician wandering and tormented, the inevitable sombrero and a battered guitar, Josh sees music in the instrument to give voice to the faith. In 1996 (along with fellow Josh Browning and Brian Smith) form the Lift To Experience with which five years later is finally able to record the magnificent "The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads" [can be reached here] double-album set in a post-apocalyptic spiritual deserts in Texas, suddenly transformed into an earthly paradise. The disc, released by English Bella Union attention than usual thanks to John Peel, was turned into a sort of cult object for many fans, particularly in Europe.
.
.
TJC is an epic work by the sound, at times overwhelming, with some progress worthy of the best post-rock era (the usual Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, etc.) and shoegaze layers that alternate with delicate ballads, but is mainly characterized by a sensitivity and a writing much over the top. The scope of the purely human efforts Pearson directs the production of the disc to break up the band puts its output in the aftermath of the work. A deep existential crisis and religious man leads to 'a period of isolation and psychiatric sessions. A few years later moved to Europe, reappears in some UK concerts (one of them captured in 2005 in the beautiful CD-R bootleg ' ' To Hull And Back'' entirely new pieces), and little recently his name back to move more urgently, thanks in part to an escalating series of concerts and collaborations. But the real turning point was when, at the end of 2009, the Dirty Three do they call their base for an Irish tour with Josh which earns a big hit with audiences and critics. And 'the turning point. Josh understands that it's finally time for a new job.
.
.
Recorded in Berlin in January 2010 in a couple of days,'' Last Of The Country Gentleman'' (Mute, 2011) [ here] is a record of upsetting an agreement. The material is, as usual, grief, despair, suffering, but this time the apocalypse is private, and concerns over a love, sublimated by the music media in long (with four of these seven tracks that exceed seven minutes), where one man, a few guitar chords and a faint whisper, engages intimate confessions and dying in facing a bigger emotional part of him (it seems that Josh has needed two weeks of complete rest after the end of recordings) with the melodies they play hide and seek, and struggle to turn out only after repeated plays. Personally I would rather use the violin (Warren Harris) and piano (Dustin O'Halloran) stronger - when they are sprouting from spoliation pure oxygen - and I do not think this disc would lost the extraordinary degree of emotionality that distinguishes it and thanks to Josh who is deservedly managed to get almost all agree in the criticism.

illustrations and cloaks Dylan

.

Known primarily as an illustrator of prestigious publications (The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, American Illustration, etc.). and children's books, as a singer and musician Marcellus Hall linked his name and became know in the early nineties as leader of bands like Railroad Jerk and White Hassle . Like other artists of his generation also Hall, after leaving some 'rush' rock of the past decided to wear the mantle inbracciare Dylan and the acoustic guitars for a sound groove on the more traditional folk music stars and stripes. ''''The First Line (Glacial Place, 2011) [ here], his debut solo album, confirms this renewed attitude, and do it in the best way, beautiful songs, sound classic, bare arrangements (guitar, harmonica and a little more) and balanced, lyrics about relationships and human losses in a sarcastic tone. For not too separate the two professional fields, the CD is also appreciated for a booklet of 44 pages through which you can admire the artist as an illustrator and not only for the quality (which certainly does not lack) of its songs.

Occultism and esoteric beats

.
.
Demdike Stare is a project formed by two insatiable collectors of vinyl, based in Manchester: Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker , producers of the old school two years ago decided to join forces to create this interesting and mysterious sonic adventure and the occult esoteric beats. Their vinyl trilogy, with three Eps published in 2009, was presented in full in an edition out this year in triple cd, entitled'' Tryptych ''(Modern Love, 2011) [ here available], which adds new material coated in the three CDs, completing the group's musical radiography. The concept of their proposal is based on bass drones and acts to create atmospheres that allow light to escape, evoking dark spaces and ominous, but at the same time know how to be sensual and accommodating even managed to give off little by little, a sort of heat that you do not expect. The soundscapes are assembled with passion and quality, and drone-dub-techno moments give rise to very successful, such as'' Repository Of Ligh '', in which the two show their full attention to detail, introducing some elements of proto-techno on the line of great Manuel Göttsching , or even in industrial-ambient ''Shame'' Rain And, not to mention the majestic double face'' Forest Of Evil''. The rhythm, however, often recalls that of the old horror film with disturbing elements soppranaturali Eastern or African origin (very percussive and / or tribal), as in Desert Ascetic '''', a genuine psychedelic pandemonium, but also in some of pesaggi ''Dusk'', ''Dawn'',''Bardo Thodol ''and'' Hashshashin Chant''(the video - see below - was built with its images taken from horror films). Like artists such as Wolfgang Voigt or Shackleton, Demdike Stare is reported as one of the projects most important of a certain kind of contemporary electronic which tends to make techno and natural dialogue (be it through dell'albiente sounds, tribal rhythms or two things at the same time) with a perfectionist attitude and personal, of course far from the ski balllo, but extremely interesting when it comes to opening new outlets of expression in these areas from a musical perspective, the entire European Union. Another important work.

this golden period for Clean Feed with (at least) a trio of wonderful album that will delight all fans of avant jazz and impro jazz (among other things, all recovered thanks to the class that distinguishes the good of his musical choices Borguez): ''Insomnia''by Tim Berne , '''' Minaret minuets of Scott Fields & Matthias Schubert and the extraordinary ''The Concert''Coimbra a double live Most of Other People Do The Killin , which now I will.

After the new year by Hot Cup, the label Mopp Elliott (the bassist), to the Lisbon Strategy (the Člen Fedd, in fact) the Most Other People Do The Killin recorded the tracks on this disc in two concerts (28 and 29 May 2010), in the Portuguese city of Coimbra.'s repertoire of work is mainly based on issues published in the ( 4) the quartet's previous recordings: one from each of the first two discs (the same name ''Mostly Other People Do the Killing'' ''and''This Is Our Moosic) , two by the third ('' Shamokin !!!'' ) and four from the last studio work ( ''''Forty Fort), more than a novel. Linking the tracks in the studio with the live one becomes immediately aware of how the four are able to express their enormous (up?) Potential, just live. A shining above are the trumpets of Peter Evans and saxophones Jon Irabagon , but the other two elements (the aforementioned Elliott on bass and Kevin Shea - already with Talibam! - the drums) are particularly inspired and become''burning''the size of live .

all traces of the work, which in some cases reach and exceed thirty minutes, give off an energy and un'irruenza unprecedented, you know how to begin, but inprobabile predict how they end, as they often within suites, such as a system of Chinese boxes, it will pop up again, micro-compositions where each musician takes his, either through citations 'classic', either through improvvisazzioni snapshots and so on and so forth. Unable to finally not be captured by ' clearly provided the cover photo that clearly refers to the well-known Jarrett Koln Concert, ripping a smile that could extend beyond measure when completed listening. Probably one of the best records in recent months in jazz.

I'm tired of singing the praises of Soundway . Since the British DJ Miles Cleret he founded the 'label located in Richmond upon Thames (south-west of London) I did nothing but peel his hands through a series of anthologies of all retrospective quality no less than excellent. After the first releases, and dell'afrobeat dedicated to the sounds of 'Afro-funk of the seventies and Central Ghana, Cleret had the brilliant idea to aim as well to new latitudes (geographic and musical), inventing alternative landing without losing the least in quality from Panama! (the series compiled by Roberto Gyemant which has already reached the third volume) to (lla) Colombia! of '' The Golden Age of Discos Fuentes 1960-1976'', exceptional retrospective on nearly two decades of the legendary Latin music company based in Medellin by Antonio Fuentes (think a bit ') in 1934. By the way, over the years, the huge archives of Discos Fuentes (which at one point was described as the Motown of Colombia) was the subject of disputes of all kinds in order to win the rights to this or that .
.
.
And the nose is a skill that does not lack a certain Cleret, skilled (along with its associates) in context and find gems of all types, with particular attention, especially in recent months, compared to an area geographic''from Colombia!''later led him to give shape to a project just as amazing as Lucas Silva ''Palenque! Palenque!: Champeta Creole & African Roots'' In Colombia 1975-1991, and more recently to lay off almost simultaneously with two other gems:'' Cartagena! Curro Fuentes & The Big Band Sound of Colombia Descarga Cumbia and 1962-1972''and'' Aquí Los Bravos! The Best of Michi Sarmiento y su Combo Bravo'' 1967-77 and further announced that another will be dedicated to the great Lucho Bermúdez for the time being anticapitalist from this Ep.
.
.
While ''Aqui Los Bravos! ''is a tribute to saxophonist Blas Marimón Sarmiento, son of the famous Climao Sarmiento and better known as Michi that with ten discs assets , created a new tropical sound,'' Cartagena!'' filled once again by Roberto Gyemantsi with the help of Will 'Quantic' Holland Cleret and the same, (as clear from the title) is instead focusing on the sounds of the Negro American and Caribbean coastal city in Colombia and in particular on the incredible big-band José Maria''''Curro Fuentes son (and here the circle closes) Gurda a bit ' , founder of the big boss. What else? An anthology of cumbia, porros, mapales, descargas salsa and big-time without interruption. Simply spectacular!

Cinema Gatlif

.
.
Kabyle and Roma, Tony Gatlif is the filmmaker who more than anyone else has told the life and culture of gypsies traveling in a continuous journey, from 'India to Spain. Born Algiers in 1848, Roma and Berber blood in the veins, Michel Dahamani (known, in fact, as Tony Gatlif) in the early sixties shares the fate of his people forced to flee their country. After leaving Algeria, he moved to Paris where he attended a course of dramatic art. Despite the new residence, Gatlif returns constantly to his true origin, the Gypsy community, in the 'passionate pursuit of itself. Without economic resources, after long years of social maladjustment and existential, which led him to repeatedly test the sad reality of the juvenile prison, the young Gatlif able to recover the passion for cinema, and the two sources is certainly a rich source of inspiration for his work as an artist even before that as a director.
.
Tony Gatlif
.
In 1973 he and so his first short film in 1975 comes the first feature film,''La Tête En Ruine ''. Three years later, following ''''La Terre au Ventre , which deals with the Algerian war experienced by a mother of French Algeria with his four children, and gradually a filmography level on average more than good, with works characterized by a kind of lyrical nostalgia and the great yearning for freedom of nomadic cultures, with their lifestyle, their music and dance. All the essential elements of the poetic project Gatlif, able to express the place of many words, the spirit alive the sensitive nature of the blood and gypsy people. The viewer is often forced to travel, a journey in which the place of arrival immediately became the site of a new start. A 'transit' in Gatlif invites you to discover its potential.
.
.
Among his titles shines especially "Latch Drom" - which won numerous awards festival-goers, including the award Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 1993 - great work "documentary" that traces the long route of nomadic music, from the north-west of 'India through the regions of Turkey' s eastern Europe , North Africa and France, emphasizing the cultural cohesion of the various musical expressions, until he lands in Spain a flamenco which preserves the spiritual components of Sufi music, a kind of continuity with the ineffable ideal song Orient.
.
. Suggested
also the splendid ''Gadjo Dilo'' ( Silver Leopard in Locarno in 1997) and'' Exils ''award for best director at Cannes in 2004, the jury headed by Quentin Tarantino. If all Gatlif's films there is a strong autobiographical component in the case of Exiles this becomes even more evident. In fact belong to the ranks of refugees in the sixties were forced to leave Algeria and leave their countries, as mentioned earlier, forty years after the director returns to the land of his childhood, trying to describe this experience in a film that is a kind of colorful road movie on the trail of two young players who leave Paris to Algiers to rediscover their roots. Theirs is a journey to the edge of memory, in the name of the music and especially rhythm.
.
.
In all his films Gatlif has always been more than an eye for the music, and it is no coincidence that many of the scores of films have his signature. In an early scene of the Exils protagonist declares:'' music is my religion'', and following this I think the guy makes a geographical and spiritual journey that takes him from the West to the East, the European pragmatism to Sufi mysticism, from techno Paris underground to Sufi trance of Algiers, through the flamenco of Andalusia. So the beat of rock that comes out of the speakers at the beginning of a SPEAKER reflected gradually in an almost natural prosequzione, scan with a windshield wiper to tap the rain, and then come together in the energy of the''heart'' flamenco, whether it is reinterpreted in electronics, whether it is back in its traditional version, to finally turn to Middle Eastern sounds and tones in a progressive''spiritualize''which culminates in a scene from a Sufi ceremony.
.
.
music, flamenco and blood ties are the absolute protagonists in''I come - Demon''Flamenco magnificent film of 2000 that I will soon and to whom I feel particularly affezzionato for various reasons. Given the issues involving the Roma in France in recent times it seems to me must point out at least (also) the last Korkoro''(Freedom)'' . If it is true that the film was also presented in Rome at MedFilm Festival last year - among other things, receiving the Special Mention , one of the most important prizes - frankly I have my doubts about a possible distribution that will take him (easily) in the halls of our cinema. Of course I hope to be wrong, because I for one have not yet had a chance to see him, even though I know, having read that the film is told a story inspired by a true story, particularly that of a Roma family arrived in a rural village in France shocked by the discriminatory laws of the Vichy government , with the Nazis that will lead to the arrest and deportation of about thirty thousand French Roma during the Second World War and the tragic genocide ghost "that cost 'the lives of half a million Roma in Europe, interned and exterminated in concentration camps along with Jews, homosexuals and disabled . A film, however, as mentioned above, while leaving the boundaries of history to highlight the difficult fate of many Roma still endure today.
.
VENGO: DEMON FLAMENCO
.
''are not a film about flamenco, but it is the same as Flamenco becomes a film.'' ''Flamenco,'' demon of life. Very apt definition, multiple meanings to one form of mental and bodily expression of the most intense. Flamenco, visceral passion, song and dance that alternates moments of tragedy to pure joy of living. Music poignant and evocative of oppression and persecution. Dance that was born from the earth and the tragedy of a people in flight. And just to make the image carved into the hearts of the Gypsy people of a country that is not there, your feet tend to remain strongly attached to the land, while the upper body moves sinuously to evoke the profound desire for freedom. Dry land, a land of colors and sounds fused from multiple traditions, Andalusia, the center energy of flamenco, gypsy homeland (Gitano: the term seems to derive from 'Egypt, where the people fleeing from Pakistan stopped long before landing in Spain through North Africa) ordered by fate, mother of the demon flamenco. Here is a film that makes flamenco a reason for living, but also passion and death. Movies that harmoniously blends folklore and modernity. Scenes between East and Andalusia open history, scoring a subtle border imperceptible. Gatlif, Gypsy Arab draws pure emotions, restoring the original value of what is just a spectacular dance to modern ears. A complete dedication, made up of scenes and music composed by the intense Gatlif himself.
.
.
Flamenco in which you can reach out with courage involved, but that can not be assimilated if you do not create the blend of body, mind and historical memory. I remember a scene in the Australian film "Ballroom" in which the young hero must learn a choreographed dancer gypsy. Unable to acquire the technique to perfection, though, that the absence of 'inspiration that it shall be given only by living in sinbiosi with the gypsies. Flamenco, the demon of life, where passions explode in the infinite existence. A pain impossible to quell. The heartbreaking loss of a daughter and destroyed an innocent father who stuns with alcohol and flamenco. A searing pain that consumes the soul. Strong contradictions, strong passions of timeless Andalusia. Are opposed to the secular traditions of modern images without paved roads, luxury cars, mobile phones, dancing, but the devil is always waiting. A history steeped in blood, seeking revenge mutual rival families. The dramatic figure of a young disabled person (Diego), grandson of our protagonist (Caco, played masterfully by Antonio Canales, a great flamenco dancer says that on this occasion only, without moving a step dance), who lives anyway His passion, his enthusiasm, his sweet memories for a pure love that was never turned off, no matter what. The young Diego is the new soul of the tradition and no compassion alive in us, as in his family, despite the handicapped. Diego is one of them, one of flamenco's family that everything has to be taught how to deal with deep and sweet things. Lyrical moments of song and music town as if time had stopped at every piece of real life. Tender love that binds to Caco uncle Diego. Care and attention which contrast with the vengeful impulses of the families opposing a war that involved blood long before his father Diego, Mario. Mario is a gypsy on the run again from 'Andalusia to North Africa, where he took refuge, and where the family usually called by phone to listen to the music of his heart. But now, Diego is just the sacrificial victim of revenge. Blood for blood. Caco knows that this could be the fate of the 'beloved nephew and is sacrificed in the name of love, family in front of the enemy: "I will fire the world!" cries in front of the awareness of the risk of death of the grandson. Moment of tragedy of the highest level. The demon of life will accompany him to the end. With the blade embedded in the side, in a dry atmosphere, and solitary, dragging up the only instrument''flamenco''that he could never find in an area so desolate, an industrial machine that produces sounds activated metal the pistons and hammers and internal straps. Metallic sounds cool, but that evoke the rhythm of flamenco, the demon of life that no longer exists.
.
.
The film, shown out of competition at Venice in 2000 (and closed that edition of the show), runs on a bare plot almost used to sew the pieces of music, but it is extraordinary intensity and drama, being able to transmit he plays a delicate poetic contrasts beautifully emotional-sentimental anger and sadness of a daughter who is gone and the tender love for a grandson who lives his life more intensely other people, despite everything. The actors (actually overtime) are all non-professional musicians and members of the high and pure traditional gypsy flamenco of Andalusia low, which Gatlif has taken off the road and taken on the set. He also directed music (as mentioned) that were completely appropriate. Chapeau.

How Much Are Uggs Woodbury

The nomadic troubadour Gaditano

.
Javier Ruibal
.
a long time I wanted to dedicate a post to this fantastic musician Gaditano, which certainly deserves more recognition among the many fans of global musical journeys. Regarded as a sort of champion of the Andalusian is clearly pointed at the eyes with color other melodies border Javier Ruibal de Flores Calero (El Puerto de Santa María, 1955) surprises from the first disc, in the early eighties for his ability to live in his songs flamenco tunes , Arabic and Mediterranean sounds, but also Indian music, Caribbean, etc., a record production designed the crossing of different musical expressions in the name of multiculturalism, with a slight prevalence for the tone Arabic-Andalusian, flamenco and jazz, topped in some cases by sprinkling some rock and blues. Connoisseur on what has been called música de author , in his songs Ruibal has always given much space to issues of social protest, as well as small personal stories, told in order to amuse or excite the listener as appropriate.
.
.
In the texts there is a certain influence of English poetry, particularly that of the generation of 1927 (from García Lorca to countryman Rafael Alberti ), but also that of more recent poets, while his stories are in the area people and places of all kinds, whether real or imagined, credible or incredible: from the most exotic oriental garden city asphalt to dirt, from sailors and wanderers''rooted''in Queens of Africa .. and then to Tangier moons, blue roses, Turkish dancers ... in the background, all children of the global village and recreated by the pen on the sensitivity of Ruibal. I personally believe that one of the most fascinating aspects of his music is his innate ability and interpretation of authorial Ruibal, built especially around stories of secondary characters, but where are always prevail elegance and good taste, there are features that even the raccomandabilissimo ''Sahara''(Riverboat, 2003) [can recover here ], chosen as a hard-showcase for this post and as a work of reference for those wishing to set about exploring the thirty-year adventure of recording musician Gaditano deservedly awarded in 2007 with''''Medalla de Andalucía, a recog of the most prestigious of his career.
